Curriculum at Newlands

Newlands is an English National Curriculum School; Our curriculum adheres closely to the framework of the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS), and the National Curriculum for England (NCfE) in the Primary and Secondary school.

We follow the key outcomes and objectives required, particularly in the core subjects of Mathematics, Literacy, and Science.  The curriculum also includes the Arabic Language for Native and non-native speakers, Islamic Studies for Muslim students, Moral Education and Social Studies- UAE, French as a Foreign Language, PE, Music, Art, STEAM, and English as an Additional language.

The primary school is broken into two key stages: Key Stage 1 (Years 1 and 2) and Key Stage 2 (Years 3 – 6). Our creative, child-led curriculum is designed around overarching concepts, which provide students with real-life context that integrates and connects all curriculum areas. As a school, we ensure that we offer a consistent and seamless progression as the children transition across the different phases throughout primary school.

Students in Key Stage 4 begin their IGCSE subjects and are fully supported by our experienced subject specialists, to enable each student to achieve their academic potential. Courses are studied throughout Year 10 and Year 11 and end with an external UK-certified board exam from Pearson Edexcel.

Newlands is offering a range of Academic and vocational pathways. The students will have an opportunity to choose from a diverse range of Pearson and Cambridge International A-level subject options. Pearson Edexcel International AS/A levels, also known as Advanced Subsidiary Level/Advanced Levels, are designed for international learners who want to progress to the best universities around the world.

Pearson Edexcel International AS/A levels (IAL) use the popular and flexible modular approach which mean exams are taken at the end of each unit of study, or throughout the programme of study when a student feels prepared and ready, or all together at the end the course. This flexibility, together with exam series in January, June and October, for most subjects, means that students have more opportunities to get feedback to improve their performance and get the grade they need to progress.
